English Language Teaching (ELT) Pedagogy Department


Introduction

Language learning can be both effective and fun. The art of teaching, however, is to know how to accomplish this in your classroom. The ELT Pedagogy Department designs and conducts ELT courses/ programmes for secondary school teachers based on sound educational theories, research-driven TESL methodology and effective classroom practice. These courses/programmes are aimed at introducing and exemplifying creative and innovative teaching techniques for the English language classroom.

 

Mission

To promote innovative methods and approaches in the teaching of English to enhance the quality of English language teaching at the secondary school level.

Objectives

  • To plan and conduct ELT courses based on current educational theories and classroom practices for secondary school EL teachers
  • To design and develop courses in TESL methodology for secondary school teachers based on research
  • To develop research-based secondary school EL classroom materials as well as teacher resource materials
  • To design and develop programmes to support the continuous professional development of secondary school English language teachers
  • To offer consultancy services on EL teaching and learning at secondary school level


  1. Audrey Lim Bee Yoke

    Profile
    I began my career in the Malaysian secondary schools in 1992 and have sixteen (16) years of progressive experience and accomplishment as an English language teacher, the Head of English Language Panel and Departmental Head of Languages. In 2009, I joined Institut Aminuddin Baki, MoE as a Senior lecturer managing international programmes and training aspiring Malaysian educational leaders. I have been serving as a Head of Department in ELTC since 2011.

    I am passionate about creating windows of opportunities for learners and inspire them to realise their potential in developing their target language proficiency autonomously. With 20 years of experience in English Language teaching including the management of several units, I am devoted to ensure that our learners can compete globally.

  3. Terry Yap Chee Keong

    Profile
    An advocate of teaching English in an interactive learning environment, Terry’s enjoying his 19th years in the service including 12 years of experience in secondary schools being involved with planning and managing curricular and extra-curricular activities that support learning and encourage learners to be active users of the language. His passion for teaching and beliefs for improving classroom practices has peaked his interests in areas of innovation in curriculum planning and design. A keen reader on task-based approach to language teaching and learning.

    Throughout my 12 years of teaching in three primary schools, I was given the trusts to experience various challenging posts. Being involved in teaching, coordinating literacy programmes, managing resources and accounts in schools, I made a step ahead to be a part of ELTC. My area of interest are in teaching and learning with various resources and materials.

    Profile
    It is an absolute honour to be a part of an illustrious institution that takes pride in spearheading a multitude of ELT initiatives and practices through research, quality training, and classroom innovation. The privilege to have gained six years’ worth of invaluable experiences teaching in a rural school in the suburbs of Perak has equipped me with the necessary skill set to progress in the education field, thus making my transition from being a teacher to a teacher trainer more relevant and apt. My area of interest lies in the teaching and learning of English in challenging circumstances.
